John MacAulay

Born in Glasgow, John graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1990 and then went on to study at the Royal College of Art, London ,and graduated from there in 1993.

His work is inspired from observations of urban life or at times he simply refers back to family memories, half remembered and half forgotten. Through drawings and photographs he is able to build up a collage of ideas for the paintings. They are captured moments rather than portraits of people, ordinary everyday events occasionally worked into themes. His paintings are often humorous but also perceptive and affectionate observations of his subjects.

John’s work has been exhibited regularly and widely since graduation; in London, Glasgow, New York and in 2005 his paintings were taken to the Miami Art Fair.

His work is included in the Fleming Collection, London, as well as numerous private collections.
